This year has been without a doubt the worst allergy season recorded in the last few years and allergy sufferers, like myself, have had a hard time dealing with the consequences.

Here are a few tips to get you through it and have an allergy-free home for the holidays.

Declutter

While there is very little or nothing we can do to control allergens outside the home, there is a lot we can do to soften the effects inside the home and, believe it or not, a decluttered home has fewer possibilities to create allergens because it’s easier to have all surfaces clean and dust free.

Dust as often as possible

Dust is a very big allergen agent and can easily go unnoticed. Dusting at least twice a week will help keep dust allergens under control.

Change the bed sheets

It is always recommended to change and wash your bed sheets and pillowcases once a week to get rid of dust mites and keep your bed fresh and allergy-free.

Use hypoallergenic bedding

Hypoallergenic bedding is a great idea for people with big allergy problems and having at least a hypoallergenic mattress protector can make a great difference.

Look for mold

Mold is one of the biggest indoor allergens and can often go unnoticed. Look for signs of mold in the most common places like bathrooms, closets, window sills, refrigerator drip pans, wallpaper, washing machines, carpets, and pads.

Do not forget the bathroom mats

Include the bathroom mats in the list of items to keep clean and keep mold free!

Cleaning appliances

Often, instruments like vacuum cleaners we use to clean with are neglected and not cleaned as often as they should be. Make a point to clean your machines and filters as often as possible.

 Air filters

Air filters are vital for fighting the allergens inside your home, therefore it is very important to keep track of when they need to be replaced.

Ceiling fans

Another place where dust collects and we often forget about! Make sure your ceiling fans are dusted often to prevent them from spreading dust all over the home!

Make a cleaning list

Creating a cleaning list and include all the elements that could easily be overlooked like air vents, lamps, chandeliers, and wall photo frames.

Get a good steam cleaner

Steam cleaning improves the air quality immensely. It will clean other irritants in the air or on your home surfaces that were left behind.

allergy relief

When used properly and often, steam kills dust mites, bed bugs, flees, and their eggs. It kills 99.9% of germs, bacteria, and viruses without having to use any chemicals.

Getting the right steam cleaner

While there are tons of steam cleaners on the market, not all of them offer the right features to deliver a true steaming and cleaning experience.
