Five Ways Nexia Keeps Your Home Running Smoothly During Vacation

Broomfield, Colo., August 12, 2015 – Let smart home technology leader Nexia™ Home Intelligence, a unit of Ingersoll Rand (NYSE:IR), be your virtual house sitter this vacation season with an array of affordable, easy-to-use smart devices that keep your home safe and your mind at ease, allowing you to just have fun.

Nexia’s all-in-one mobile app (for iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices) allows you to monitor and control all of your smart devices from anywhere in the world; you can check in at any time to make sure you turned off the coffee pot or locked the front door. Even better, Nexia’s reliable and secure wireless system can run your home automatically so it looks like someone is home, from turning on lights to watering the lawn. Nexia’s integrated system features devices that communicate with each other to create a smart home capable of running smoothly on its own.

“A truly smart system helps manage your home safely and efficiently even when you’re lying on a beach somewhere,” said George Land, head of Nexia. “In fact, that’s probably when people most appreciate the difference between a smart home system such as Nexia and remote devices that require switching constantly between apps. When you’re on vacation, you don’t want to worry about your home. Nexia takes care of that.”

Here are five ways Nexia can run your home while you’re away:

#1: The Getaway

It hits you right about the time you get through airport security: Is the coffee pot on? Did you shut the garage door? With a couple of quick taps on your mobile device, Nexia lets you double-check the Linear® Z-Wave Garage Door Controller and shut the door remotely if you forgot. Using any of hundreds of Z-Wave devices, such as a General Electric® Z-Wave Appliance and Light Modules, you can do the same with a coffee pot or any appliance you might want to turn off while away. And Z-Wave door locks, such as the Schlage® Touchscreen Deadbolts, allow you to lock or unlock connected doors from anywhere.

#2 Just a Quick Peek

There’s nothing like a quick peek to put your mind at ease that everything is quiet on the home front. Check-in using HD Indoor and Outdoor Security Cameras that can stream live encrypted video to your smartphone or automatically record video if a Z-Wave motion sensor such as those from Schlage®, Fibaro, or Aeotek detects motion. The indoor camera features high-definition resolution and enhanced nighttime visibility, and the outdoor camera includes motion detection for two-in-one functionality.

Similarly, you can assign the neighbor who’s looking after your pets a personal code to punch into the Schlage® Home Keypad Deadbolt and have Nexia send you a text or email alert every time they enter it. And, just in case, set the lock to relock itself 10 minutes after they leave.

#3 That Lived In Look

An empty-looking house creates a tempting target to burglars. Nexia Automations enable you to make your house look lived in while away. You can program lights to come on at dusk or the radio or TV to turn on or off over the course of the day. With connected blinds and shades from Pella Inysnctive™ or motorized shades from Bali, Graber, and BudgetBlinds, your window coverings can open and close on a pre-programmed schedule at the touch of a button. And, with upcoming compatibility, the Rachio Iro Smart Sprinkler Controller makes sure your flowers are taken care of without wasting water.

#4 Staying Safe and Sound

If a problem occurs with your heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, Nexia’s new advanced diagnostics feature, available through select Trane and American Standard Heating & Air Conditioning thermostats, will immediately detect the problem and alert your local HVAC repair center. You can remotely authorize entrance for the technician with your connected lock, monitor the repair through your camera, and return to a fully functioning system without ever having to deal with the issue in person.

Being on the water can be a great way to close out the summer, but no one wants to come home to water damage from an unintended leak. Z-Wave water sensors from brands such as FortrezZ, and Fibaro can detect a leak, alert you immediately, and even work with the FortrezZ Wireless Z-Wave Water Valve to automatically turn off the water. Similarly, the First Alert Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm can send you an alert if smoke or carbon monoxide is detected. The Linear ® Z-Wave Siren and Strobe Light increases security from intruders with alerts, sirens and strobe lights that trigger when doors or windows are breached.

#5 No Place Like Home

Unfortunately, vacations don’t last forever, so make the return home as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Program your Trane or American Standard thermostat to turn the air conditioner on at your scheduled landing time so home is a comfortable temperature when you walk in the front door. And maybe turn that coffee pot back on because tomorrow is a workday.
