We received the Motorola Talkabout T480 in exchange for our honest and unbiased opinion.

September is the National Preparedness Month (NPM) and during this month people are called to be prepared as much as possible for any weather related emergency that might happen during this season… Here in Florida, hurricane season is when most people try to plan ahead for an emergency, but the reality is that we should all have an emergency plan at all times, especially if there are small children in the house.

While (NPM) helps as a prompt to take action to prepare, now and throughout the year, for any types of emergencies that could affect us anywhere we live (I am very aware that this includes a lot more than just the hurricanes), so we need to be prepared where we live, work, and also where we visit.

Make sure you have everything you might need during an emergency

Having a water supply, food and certain medications is vital during an emergency, but communication is also very important and will allow you to stay connected with your loved ones, the community, and news.

Information is crucial during an emergency which is the reason why having a Motorola Talkabout T480 FRS/GMRS is just a good idea.

Motorola Talkabout T480 FRS/GMRS

These compact, easy to set up two way radios are a great tool during an emergency, as they feature a built-in FM radio, which allows you to switch back and forth between talky and radio easily and allows you to listen to your favorite music or news as you would with a normal FM radio.

Easy to set up

The Motorola Talkabout T480 is easy to set up. The first thing you need to do after getting the unit out of the box is fully charge the walkies…You will find a back panel with a screw… Smart enough, Motorola made this panel so that it can be unscrewed with a coin which is great if you do not have a screw driver handy at some point.

The unit comes with a wall/desk stand that is easy to use and allows you to keep the charger cable tidily put away. The smart design stand bottom opens so you can roll up the rest of the cable preventing any tangles and messes. ( Be aware that the unit does not come with screws to attach the stand to the wall, but they are very standard and easy to find).

Two ways to power

The Motorola Talkabout T480 comes with a NiMH rechargeable batteries for up to 10 hours. Or ( and I love this), you can use 3 AA batteries for up to 26 hours of use….I think this is just great as if for whatever reason, you lose power or do not have access to a power outlet, you can still be connected and in the loop of what is going on around you with the radio and the walky. There are actually three ways to charge the NiMH rechargeable batteries that are included with your unit, you can connect it to your vehicle adaptor, your computer ( you will need a micro-USB cable for that), or plug the micro-USB cable into an outlet.

MOTOROLA

built-in LED flashlight

To make life even easier for the users, Motorola has included a built-in LED flashlight that is a life saver during a power outage or when you are outdoors.

T480Car

I love the versatility of the Motorola Talkabout T480 and keep in mind that there are many other scenarios in which you can use a radio like this, but I just think this is something to be included on your top of your emergency plan.

More features to love

The unit also features low battery alert, and scanning feature to see which channels are presently in use. The Quiet Talk (QT) feature guarantees uninterrupted communication with other Motorola radios with the same feature…You can also communicate with other FRS/GMRS radios no matter what the brand being used as long as you are on the same channel and privacy code.

T480home

The range of the radio will vary with the terrain….going from 35 miles on a valley to mountain, to 1 mile in a neighborhood, so a test run to find out the range of the unit in your specific terrain or environment is always a good idea.

The Motorola Talkabout T480 has a MSRP: $69.99 per radio.
