I received a baby monitor  to facilitate this review. I was not financially compensated for this post. My opinions are my own and not by any means influenced by any other part.

Having a new baby is both wonderful and terrifying at the same time and keeping your little one safe and sound is one of the main goals of any new parent…One of my main concerns when it comes to a new baby is SIDS and while I try not to obsess over it, I try to make sure I have all the tools necessary to help my little one through this stage in his life.  This is why one of the first things I look to have in the baby’s room is a monitor that allows me to keep tabs on the little guy and check on him as often as I want without disturbing him which is awesome.

There are different types of baby monitors and finding the one that best works for you is very important for baby’s sake and your piece of mind….I have tried different types of monitors and actually have one in my room for when the baby is in there (they are also great to check on the ladybug whom is 8 and has a tendency to get in trouble).

Some of the monitors will allow you to check on your camera remotely on line if you are out of the home (keep an eye on the baby sitter).  Some of them allow you to check on the baby when you are home and will let you know when the baby is awake and crying thanks to the microphones integrated in the units.

Angelcare monitors  go farther than that and actually alert you if your baby does not move in a certain amount of time which is not only amazing but allows you to know if there is something wrong and the baby is not moving which can be  life saving for your little bundle.

Angelcare AC 1100

The Angelcare AC100 is a nifty baby monitor that combines a quality baby video and sound monitor with an under-the-mattress baby movement Sensor Pad that will alert you if no motion is detected in the crib after just 20 seconds.

Setting up your Angelcare AC1100

Setting up the unit is fairly easy and I do recommend you read the instructions before starting to set up your unit…Be advise, you will need a hardboard (plywood board) that is 6mm (1/4”) thick and at least 33cm (13”) x 33cm (13”), I used a 20 x20 board which I bought at Lowes for about $6.00.

You will also need 3 AAA batteries and a miniature Philips screw driver that will be needed to open the battery compartment. Your monitor utilizes two sets of batteries (3 AAA Rechargeable for the parent unit) and three regular AAA for the nursery unit. (Only use the rechargeable for the parent unit and the non-rechargeable for the nursery unit). Also keep in mind that you need to charge the parent unit for about 15 hours before the first use!

Once you have set up your nursery unit (follow safety warnings), you can either use the pre-programed factory setting or you can actually customize the settings to fit your needs.

Activating the Sensor pad

To activate your sensor pad, you will need to use the parent unit’s menu.  So press the menu icon to access the main menu, then press the Movement icon to activate or deactivate the movement alert and press ok to confirm…You can adjust the sensor pad sensitivity level.  If you’re using a thick mattress you will need to play around a little until you find the optimal sensitivity level for you.

Features

The Angelcare AC1100 has many great features that will help make parents life easier including:
Color Video Transmission, Day and Night Vision (Infrared Camera), LCD Touchscreen, 2-Way Talk-Back Feature ( love this feature),Temperature Display and Control…you can customize , 2.4GHz Digital Transmission with Minimized Interference, Portable and Rechargeable Parent Unit( with belt clip), Nursery Night Light( another favorite),Audio “TIC” Feature( when using this feature the parent unit makes a ticking sound so you know the monitor is working properly…great for when the baby is sleeping), Out-of-Range Indicator, Low Battery Indicator, Zoom In and Zoom Out, Adjustable Camera Angle, Parent Unit Locator( great for sleep deprived parents), Timer ( allows you to keep track of baby sleep patterns)!

There are only 2 things I would change on this monitor:

  1. The cable that connects the pad with the nursery unit.  I would like to have more freedom as to where to set up the unit and the length of the cable on the unit really limits my options.

2) I would like to see improved range (I had a little bit of an issue finding the right spot for the parent unit to keep it within range).

The Angelcare AC1100 can be found at different retailers for as little as $151.00
