The baby is crawling and getting into anything and everything he can get his hands on, so baby proofing can’t wait any longer as I need to know baby J will be safe cruising around the living room! In the nick of time, I was given the opportunity to try some of the Safety 1st brand new home safety line, OutSmart.
OutSmart products feature a non-functional “decoy” button at the center of the product that redirects your child’s attention (Yes, they are smart and watch you when you press buttons so they think this is key). The actual activation buttons are hidden under a smooth surface that requires a two-finger squeeze to open.
I received 3 different Safety 1st Outsmart products:
Safety 1st Outsmart Slide Lock
Easy to install with no drilling needed, this clever little device is meant to keep your little ones out of trouble preventing them from opening cabinets up to 4.5” apart. Right now my main issue with the baby is my TV stands which has a double glass door and he has made his sole purpose in life to get into it…So I really needed something like this.
While the lock has a large button on the front, you actually need to press both sides of the lock at the same time in order to make it slide.
The knobs on my TV stand are very close together, so the unit fit a little loose, but even though it is not as tight as I wanted, it still does its job and keeps the baby out of the cabinet. They also offer an OutSmart Flex Lock that I think would be a better fit for something like my TV. Stand (I already ordered one and is on its way).
They also sent me the Safety 1st OutSmart Knob Covers 2-Pack…Unfortunately all the door knobs in my place are lever so I can’t use the knob covers and couldn’t try them either.
The last item they sent me was the Outsmart Multi-Use Lock.
This is Perfect to keep your little one’s out of the fridge. This multi-use lock is also very easy to install and of course, it features the staple decoy button to distract your kid’s attention.
I was happily surprised on how good the sticky part works as I’ve had problems with similar products where the sticky part did not stick to the surface very well.
I love the Flexible strap for custom fit and the fact that it pivots out of the way for the times of non-use.
One thing I wish it had is an extra set of the sticky part in case I need to move the lock to a different location, but the locks are really inexpensive ( $7.99), so getting one or two extra ones is no big deal.
