Do you have a sedentary job?
If you google the definition of Sedentary work, you will find that it involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools.
It is a fact that these jobs are often related to office work and include a certain amount of walking or standing, but in truth, you spend most of the time throughout work day in a sitting position which can lead to many aches and pains. Our bodies are not designed to be in this positions for an extended period of time and will often let us know it is not happy about it.
What to do to break the cycle
Taking breaks from sitting down during the day can certainly help to avoid the sedentarism, but quite often we get too involved with work and just forget we need to move around.
We need to move around, it is as simple as that. If you have a smartwatch then you know that if you do not move for a long period of time, during the day, it sends you messages encouraging to move and there is a reason for that.
Sedentarism doesn’t only affect our neck and back, it also has a direct impact on our weight because the less amount of movement = fewer calories are burned.
Standing Desks
People have come up with some smart solutions to inspire sedentary workers to move throughout the day.
A few months ago, my husband commented that one of his clients has a standing desk in his office and I thought that was a very interesting concept, not new, but certainly not something I have considered, or even thought of until I heard my husband talking about it.
A standing desk, also known as a stand-up desk, is simply a desk that allows you to stand up and still be able to work comfortably.
Many health benefits
While the benefits of using a stand-up desk are still being researched, many believe it can lower your blood sugar, increase productivity, improve your mood and energy levels. Some even dare to say that it might lower your risk of a heart disease.
While I can not attest to that, I can tell you that my own experience is that sitting in the same position for long periods of time does take a toll and impacts your whole day.
The right desk
We spend a lot of time of our lives working and if that work is in front of a computer, we should try to take the proper steps to a healthy work environment that might involve a standing desk.
If you decided to give this trend a try, look for one of the modern designs that allow you to adjust the height without effort.

The position can be adjusted with one hand, thanks to the one single handle design and offers a large work surface for your comfort and workstation set up.
Best feature? You can effortlessly change from a sitting position to a standing position thanks to the 12 different height levels that allow you to adjust the desk, no matter if you are 5’1” ( that would be yours truly), or 6’1” which is also great if you share your workspace from time to time.
I also like that you can easily remove the keyboard tray when you do not need to use a mouse and keyboard.
