There are many factors that can jeopardize a good night’s sleep, many of these factors are directly related to the environment and temperature which is often one the most popular factors. The right temperature setup can help you to relax and go to sleep easily.

Core body temperature follows a 24-hour cycle connected with the sleep-wake rhythm.  The body temperature decreases during the night-time sleep phase and rises during the wake phase.  Therefore, sleep is more likely to occur when the core temperature reduces and much less likely to happen during the temperature raises.

Ever had to stick your feet out from under the covers because you were getting too hot?

The reason, because our hands and feet allow the heated blood from the central body to lose heat through the skin’s surface.

Melatonin which is the sleep hormone plays an important role in this  process and helps with the loss through the peripheral parts of the body.

As we fall asleep, the core body temperature falls but peripheral skin temperature rises.  The body temperature self-regulation varies depending on the sleep stage.

Environmental heat can disturb this equilibrium between sleep and body temperature. It is believed that an ambient temperature between 71 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal.

Any major variation in the temperature can lead to the disturbance of sleep with reduced slow wave sleep. This is the stage in the sleeping process in which the brain rests. This could also diminish the REM  or Rapid Eyes Movement which is the stage in which we dream.

It is actually very simple, during the REM stage, our body can’t regulate temperature and you can say that the body avoids this stage when it is too cold or too hot.

Fragmented REM sleep can lead to restless sleep and as result, impacts the mood and alertness in a negative way.

The temperature setting battle.

The easy way to avoid your body from overheating would be to just set the temperature to the ideal setting.  Unfortunately, this can be a bit tricky when you share your house and bedroom with another person whose body temperature seems to be higher.

A woman’s normal temperature tends to be a couple degrees higher,  but there are many elements that can affect this.  I am not just talking hormones, alcohol, caffeine, clothing, or medications to name a few, can affect body temperatures.

My body regulation solution

I am in a constant fight with the husband about the perfect temperature for the house and especially at bedtime, I like cold and he doesn’t.

Can a pillow be the answer?

I have been using a tanda Comfy Cold pillow for a few weeks now. To be honest, I have never heard of the brand until a few weeks ago, but I am so happy I did.

What makes this pillow so special?

The pillows are available in either the Complete Cool or Comfy Cool pillow, depending on how much “ coolness” you need.

I tend to get really warm at night, so for me, the Complete Cool pillow is the best option. The Complete Cool pillow provides an immediate cooling sensation thanks to the Tanda exclusive ATROS technology. These pillows are designed to slightly lower your body temperature by pulling cool air from the room and transferring it directly to your body…The result is an immediate cool sensation that I just love and that helps me to immediately feel cooler and more comfortable.

No more waking in the middle of the night with a sweaty head. The Pillows feature a Tencel infused fabric that is very soft to the touch and comfortable.

To give you a customized comfort experience, the tanda pillows have an adjustable loft so you can reach your prime comfort level. I love the way they are, so I did not need to make any adjustments, but it is nice to have that option!

Made with premium quality materials and utmost attention to details and craftsmanship, these are one of the best pillows I have tried and the only ones to deliver that cold sensation at night time.

How much I like it?

I am seriously considering bringing one with me to trip to the Dominican Republic next week!

The pillows have a price tag of $75.00 a piece and in my opinion, they are worth every penny and can be a great Valentine’s day present.
