Crane Germ Defense humidifier a Great Ally this Flu Season!

You probably don’t know this, but I had a really big scare with my daughter a couple of months ago…She ended up in the hospital with pneumonia and had to stay there for about 10 days. She had an abscess in one of her lungs and they were talking about surgery….ever since that happened, I pay close attention to her breathing patterns and I must admit I get a little paranoid if she gets a cold…so I try to make sure that the air in the house is clean.

She has gotten congested a couple of times and while I do have a cold air humidifier I have been wanting to try a warm air humidifier and was really happy when Crane gave me the chance to try their Germ Defense Cold and Warm air Humidifier.

Now that the flu season is here, there are a few facts that are good to know…Did you know that young children commonly get about 6 to 8 colds and upper respiratory tract infections each year….. The FDA and Pediatricians recommend not giving over the counter cough and cold medicine to children under the age of six because of the risk of overdose.

For cold and flu symptoms the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend a cool mist humidifier, saline nasal solution, and a bulb to suction the nasal mucus. A cool mist humidifier is preferred over a warm mist because the water does not boil (thereby making it safer)…So this humidifier was perfect because of the fact that I can have the best of both worlds in one unit and use it as a cold mist humidifier when using it in my daughter’s room in order to avoid any risks and can use it as a warm air humidifier and keep it in my room when I need it… The reality is that I am already getting sick even though I had my flu shot last week and DH is there too, so this unit is really going to be put to good use.

Very easy to use, the Crane Germ Defense humidifier is very quiet. The Germ Defense antimicrobial protection in water tank creates a germ free mist as it prevents mold and bacteria to grow. The setting can be easily switched from cold to warm…It does take the unit a bit of time to get warm as you can have as much as 1.2 gallons of water in the tank that by the way can run up to 72 hours.

The unit features a 360˚ nozzle that allows you to point the mist in any direction you desire (very handy).
The unit as I said is really easy to operate, it has an easy to fill tank, two big dials on the front of the unit one is for the power and to set up the humidifier for cold or warm mist, the second one controls the amount of humidity.
A blue light goes on when the Germ Defense humidifier is on…There is another light for the water which turns on when the water level is low; in addition the unit has an auto shutoff safety sensor.
