I received a car seat to facilitate this review. I was not financially compensated for this post. My opinions are my own and not by any means influenced by any other part.

One of the most important items you will ever buy for your baby is without a doubt a car seat and safety and comfort are two of the key elements that you need to look for. Those are not the only features that you want in your little one’s car seat, so I take finding a car seat for the baby or my daughter, very seriously.

I needed to find a car seat for the baby and the first thing to consider when you start to shop for a car seat is if you are going to go with an infant car seat or you are going to start off with a convertible car seat.

There are benefits to both options, so it is really a matter of preference, but I must say that by starting off with a convertible car seat , you save the money you would otherwise invest in an infant car seat as this is only good for 9-12 months depending on your baby’s size and weight.

I have recently had the chance to try the new Diono Pacifica convertible booster seat.

The car seat

The Diono Pacifica is one of the newest Diono’s releases and features a full steel frame and aluminum reinforced sides for added safety. The Diono Pacifica car seat can seat rear-facing children from 5 to 50 lbs and forward facing children from 20-90 lbs in 5-point harness mode. (up to 57″ in height). The Pacifica converts to booster mode for children between 50 and 120 lbs. (up to 57″ in height).

While you might not be able to tell at first glance as its body design is not as bulky as other similar car seats, the Pacifica has reinforced extra deep sidewalls lined with energy-absorbing foam providing Pacifica users with great head and body protection.

Actually, the design on this car seat is what first caught my eye, then the different features on this car seat, like the Infant body support cushions and memory foam for additional comfort. The space saving design allows you to have extra room and it is great if you have to have more than one car seat in the car at the time.

The car seat is easy to install and also features SuperLATCH™: with the Strongest Connectors and Secureweave™
One of my favorite features? The Diono Pacifica folds flat for travel and is FAA certified and folds flat for travel!

The Pacifica features additional forward-facing recline position to accommodate different types of contoured vehicle seats which is very handy and makes this car seat very versatile and easier to accommodate in different types of vehicles. The 5 shoulder and 3 buckle positions along with the extra-long leg support provides with a comfortable ride.
The Diono Pacifica has infant support cushions for added comfort, it is NCAP crash tested (the industry benchmark for verifying child seat performance in severe accident conditions).

While doing some research, I found that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), did not give this car seat a good rating, so I contacted Diono and they as expressed by the IIHS, in their review said: results vary depending on kid’s size and vehicle type, they base their ratings based on how well three-point shoulder and lap seat belts fit a child-sized test dummy that was seated on the booster seats. Diono told me that every seat is not designed for every child (agreed), thus all weight and height requirements recommended for each product should be followed exactly.

Secondly, all of their car seats exceed US and Canadian Federal crash test standards in rear-facing, forward-facing, and booster modes. Every seat is designed with advanced safety features, including a full steel frame and enhanced side impact protection that work together to keep your child as safe as possible; their higher weight capacities mean your child will ride safer, longer. Child safety is their number one priority and they have every confidence that their seats will perform as designed when involved in a real-world situation. This makes all the sense in the world and I completely agree that different car seats will fit kids differently and trying and fitting the car seat is always a great idea.

What you should know when testing a booster seat for your kids: Shoulder belts should lie across the middle of a child’s shoulder, not against their neck or falling onto their arm. Lap belts should lie flat on the child’s legs, not across their stomachs.
