With the change in weather comes increased time spent indoors time due to outdoors conditions might not be favorable for kids.
Here in Florida, that usually translates to rain, thunderstorms, and windy days. Needless to say, that leaves parents, like yours truly, needing to keep younger members of my household occupied to avoid their very active minds from getting into trouble.
To that effect, I like to have a selection of games that would only come out of the toy box in such occasions, and the reason I do this because I want them to be excited…It’s like getting a brand new toy even though it is not.
One thing I try to accomplish when I select the “bad weather games and toys” is not only that they have fun but the games can help the kid’s development in some way while improving their concentration levels and memory…There is no law saying kids can’t gain something while playing. As a matter of fact, when kids are having fun, they are very receptive and it is an excellent opportunity for them to learn.
I want to share with you some of those toys that I have reserved for special occasions. They are a lot of fun at any given time and a great choice for play dates!
The Crazy Blender
What kid doesn’t love to explore the magic of the kitchen and its appliances?
This is a cute little blender that is great for multiple users. This is a battery operated blender that features a fun and vivid colored blender with 25 fruit cards that have to make it into the blender while it is on…The blender will, of course, spit out the cards (the kids love that), the first player without cards wins the game. This is basically a game of luck as there is no way of knowing where the fruit cards will end up!
Keeping with the kitchen theme
The crazy toaster by Little Tykes is meant for 2 to 4 players. Each player takes a pan and all the toaster cards are placed into the toaster. Once everything is set, the first player pushes the toaster nose to start the timer for the first round.
The players, need to use their pans to catch the flying toast cards and try to make matches….The pieces that are not caught, will go back into the toaster for the second round, the player with the most matches wins.
This game is rated for kids 4+ but is a nice entertaining game that even older kids will have fun with and yes, parents too! This is a good game to share with the kids!
Hot Hoops
This is a one or two players game that can be easily set up and a perfect choice for the next generation of Michel Jordans .
This is a fun game for one or two kids and features spring-loaded shooters (one on each end) to fire shots at the hoop with 4 baskets included in the set.
The kids love trying to overscore each other or simply score as many baskets as they can, which makes it even more fun. Keep score of the games so the kids can try to beat their previous record.
You can make this into a friendly competition among different family members and include parents for a fun indoors time!
What do you do when there is bad weather and can’t take the kids outside?
