Home safety is an important matter all year around, but even more so during the holidays when lots of people travel and leave their homes for the holidays. This is when you want to make sure your home and belongings are as well-protected as possible and house fire is probably very high on my list of things to worry about when I leave my home for extended periods of time and I tend to unplug all the electrics when I know I am not going to be home.
A few weeks ago I was introduced to a very interesting product called Safer Socket by Twin Star.
What is Safer Socket?
The unit is thicker than a conventional socket, but blends really well with any current set up you have. The Safer Socket features a patent pending technology within the device that prevents electrical outlets and appliances plugged into them from overheating. The device requires no special wiring or professional installation. Actually, it is really easy to use as all you need to do is plug it into your current sockets and once engaged, the light on the Safer Socket will turn green letting you know your unit is all set and ready to do its job.
Once installed, Safer Socket will constantly monitor the temperature of the plug with its five tiny thermostats contained inside the unit. It will automatically shut off the plugged-in appliance if it senses an unsafe rise in temperature that could lead to an electrical fire….The whole concept is really interesting and certainly brings peace of mind, not only during the holidays, but all year around.
There is a green light that comes up once you have installed your Safer Socket and the unit is designed to show a red light in the case that there is some overheating and the appliance on the socket has been shut off…once this happens, you would have to wait 10 minutes to reset your unit.
Thankfully I have not had this happen to me, but it certainly makes me feel better knowing that this technology is available.
The units are made with a high quality material and the prongs used on them are also of great quality so you are really getting a sturdy, quality product.
The units are designed to be used on any indoors standard grounded outlet (3 prongs). So far, the units are only available in white and have a retail price of $19.99 each or buy 3 for $59.99 and get one free.

OMG, I need this! I thought surge protectors were enough to prevent a fire, I guess not! They have a whole chart there, that shows how the Safer Socket is so much better. It even protects against corroded wiring. and loose connections.
Safer Socket continually monitors the temperature of the outlet and plugs of the appliances that are plugged into it. If potential fire-causing temperatures are detected, Safer Socket automatically shuts off the plugged-in appliances. I don’t live in fear of a house fire, but if a simple additional plug can help us all sleep better and potentially keep us safer, I’m definitely all for it.
I like how it can be used w/surge protection to increase safety, Its also nice that it will also turn off any appliances. I could use this in the kitchen and home office. Like that you can buy 3 and get one free.
I learned that Safer Socket monitors temperatures. It will shut down if it gets too hot. It helps to prevent fires from occurring.
Installation involves merely plugging it into a wall outlet. And along those same lines, to reset it, just unplug it and plug it back in (making sure it is not too hot to touch). So many fires originate from electrical problems, and in just 5 minutes, a residence can become engulfed in flames.
I also learned how simple this product is to install and use. As far as the cost, it is pretty inexpensive, considering other alternatives and the potential tragic consequences.
What a great product! I learned that when an electrical device is plugged into the Safer Socket, six thermostats inside the unit continually monitor the temperature of the socket and the plugs of the devices that are in use. We have so many electronics going on around here we could really use the Safer Socket!
It’s easy to install. It controls the socket so it doesn’t overheat. If potential fire-causing temperatures are detected, Safer Socket automatically shuts off the plugged-in appliances.
I worry a lot about our house wiring. Our house is pretty old with some mixed wiring and when we had an inspection some of it was wired wrong. I think having a “Safer Socket” to monitor the temperature of the outlet and plugs of the appliances that are plugged into it we be a big peace of mind for use. I love the fact that if potential fire-causing temperatures are detected, Safer Socket will automatically shut off the plugged-in appliances.
Now that I have a house, I am more aware of safety issues. I love that this turns off appliances if it gets too hot.
Safer Socket continually monitors the temperature of the outlet and plugs of the appliances that are plugged into it and turns it off so it can not overheat which can cause a fire in your home.
I learned:Electrical fires can happen at any moment, even while asleep or not at home. I also learned: Out of 379,900 fires, 3,300 of these fires originated in extension cords. 39% of these fires are a direct result of Faulty outlets & plugs, Electrical branch circuits and Damaged or bad wiring.
I learned that If potential fire-causing temperatures are detected, Safer Socket automatically shuts off the plugged-in appliances. I really like this product everyone should have them
I learned the Company Safer Socket has their items available for purchase only from their website, a toll free number and on Amazon. The installation for a Safer Socket is to simply plug the unit in the wall and plug in your appliance. Safer socket has a generous 3 year limited warranty on their products.
My niece always comes over to visit. I worry about her safely because she is toddler. I like how easy and quick they are to install.
I learned that if potential fire-causing temperatures are detected, Safer Socket automatically shuts off the plugged-in appliances. This is very important to have.
I learned that they monitor temperature.

I learned that there are almost 51,000 fires in the United States each year. And that a lot of these I am sure could have been prevented with this device. I also learned that the safety socket monitors the temperature and shuts off if it gets too hot. I did not know a socket could do that.
I am more aware of safety issues. I love that this turns off appliances if it gets too hot.
i learned that it automatically shuts off the plugged-in appliances.
With having had a fire at a young age, fires scare me. I learned that this device monitors the temp of the outlet and if the appliance gets to hot it shuts it off. I know with having an older home this is something that would be so worth investing in!
I was impressed with how easy and quickly you could install it. I like it monitors temperatures
I learned that Safer Socket monitors temperatures. It will shut down if it gets too hot. It helps to prevent fires from occurring.
I learned that Safer Socket monitors temperatures and it shuts down if it gets too hot. It sounds like an amazing product !!
I learned that unlike other products which protect against electrical fires, this one requires no wiring. I like the fact that it also protects against corroded wiring or outlet corrosion that may not have visible damage. I like how much protect you get with this protect as I am always afraid of electrical fires.
I learned you should not use the safer socket with a GFCI or AFCI outlet because it would cover the reset button on the outlet. I also learned it would be great for homes with aluminum wiring (homes from the 60s-70s). I think this is a great idea because I am always afraid to leave things plugged in when we leave for an extended period. Thank you!

The thought of electrical fires always has me paranoid. I never even knew Safer Socket existed. I’ll have to get me a couple for sure! By looking at their website, I’ve learned that the Safer Socket instantly reduces the risk of electrical fires from happening and that Safer Socket automatically shuts off the plugged-in appliances if potential fire-causing temperatures are detected.
I’ve learnt that there is no such thing as being over worried! I’m forever telling my husband to turn plugs sockets off! The thought of a fire shakes me to the core. These protectors may make me feel a little bit safer
With 50,900 electrical fires each year, this product will reset if the current overheats. We have electrical wiring issues in our house, always blowing a breaker. I am excited that these are on the market. In 2011 the report says that over 400 deaths occured by electrical fires and that In 79% fire spreads beyond the object where the fire starts” That is too scary, esp for something that all homes USE 24 hours a day. Smart move by Safer Socket!
I learned that there were $1.4 billion lost in direct property damage. Shocking!
I learned that “six thermostats inside the unit continually monitor the temperature of the socket and the plugs”. Which means that this is perfect for those places that are behind the couch or bed that I’m always worried about that have plugs in them. I would really use this.
Safer Socket uses six thermostats inside the unit to continuously monitor the temperature of the socket and the plugs of the devices that are in use; it automatically shuts off any device that is plugged into it should an overheating event occur (i.e. potential high temperature fire threat). A great idea for outlets in use behind heavy, hard-to-move furniture that is generally out of sight & unmonitored.
