We are all in that holiday mindset and looking for presents for our loved ones. Sometimes, we get so wrapped up in everything that we forget that the true meaning of Christmas is sharing. It’s not all about the presents and material things we get.
I would love to say that my kids are more interested in sharing and spending time with the family than the gifts they might be receiving this holiday, but that would not be very accurate. So what can I do to introduce the idea os giving or paying it forward to my kids?
Every year around the holidays, I go into their rooms and do a deep cleaning of their clothes, toys, and shoes and let them know that we are giving to kids and families that might need them more than we do.
The Donation Bin
I go from room to room—every single room of the home—and gather all those items that we thought we really needed at one point but didn’t really use much during the year.
I fill a box or bag with those items and then donate them. That’s my way of showing the kids that it’s not always about us and that other people could really use a hand not only during the holidays but year-round.
Gifts With a Purpose
I want to be realistic. I know that kids and family members expect us to show our love and appreciation by presenting them with at least a little token. But I also like to make sure that I include presents that make a difference for someone else while still making a great present for family members.
A Unique Present that Pays It Forward
This year, I was really excited to find the Have a Heart smartphone wallet case. This beautiful and unique phone wallet case raises money to help some of the world’s most impoverished people.
Five dollars from every purchase helps get medicine, school supplies, and more to remote Andes villages where the poverty rate is over 55%, and the children suffer from malnutrition.
The phone cases are made from environmentally friendly materials and include RFID protection. You can choose from a wide range of patterns, including many directly inspired by the artwork created by the villages’ children.
The first thing that caught my attention was the beautiful and unique design, and then the fact that these original and unique cases will also help others in need.
Chances are that 90% of the people on your list have a phone, so why not give them something they need and that will make a difference for someone else?
I love these designs and really like the whole concept, which is why I have made the Illusion Photograph and the Have a Heart phone cases a big favorite on this year’s holiday gift guide.
