I received an InBody Band to facilitate this review. I was not financially compensated for this post. My opinions are my own and not by any means influenced by any other part.
New year, new me this is one of my main goals this 2016 and of course getting back in shape and losing the baby weight is two of my biggest challenges. I have already started to eat better and while I have not been exercising as much as I would like to, I am already working with a trainer to guide me on the right path.
A few weeks ago, I was introduced to the inBody band and if you guessed that this is an activity tracker, then you guessed right.
InBody BAND – Wearable Body Composition Analyzer
What make this unit different? Well for starters, it features a body composition analyzer…Meaning that it allows users to easily perform a quick test to let you know your body composition (it measures your body fat and muscle mass anytime, anywhere).
InBody, is a South Korean company that creates comprehensive body composition machines, and they are the creators of the InBody Band, bringing the body composition analysis to individuals like you and me. These daily activity trackers do the usual things you will find in similar products (measuring heart rate and steps and calories burned) but unlike any other activity tracker I have seen so far, it doubles as a “body composition analyzer.” InBody band utilizes a quartet of small electrodes to measure body fat. That work is usually done by bulky smart scales that can measure weight, BMI, and muscle mass; however, now the InBody Band makes body composition measurements mobile.
The InBody Band, is light weight and has a strap that is made of a flexible silicone material similar to most other fitness trackers in the market. It snaps closed and it can be a little tricky to snap sometimes, but once you snap it closed, it stays on and fits nicely.
The straps are interchangeable, so you can play around with the look of your InBody Band if you would like to. I personally like this option as I tend to leave my band on and having the possibility to match what you are wearing is always nice ( I love the yellow band).
The display is as wide as the strap and you will need to push a small button on the top right of the band in order to view the different categories which includes: time, body composition analyzer test (which can be done on the spot, they recommend to do the test at the same time every day if possible for better accuracy) in the InBody Band website you will find a video showing how to take the test correctly.
They also recommend taking the test in the morning, before eating anything, after using the bathroom and before you exercise…As you can see they do have a few rules for taking the test, but they are really not a big deal.
The unit also displays heart rate, steps, activity time, calories burned.to switch between categories, just press the button until you find the desired one.
I really like the fact that they have incorporated a watch feature. In order to see the correct time you will have to push the button that displays all the different features, I have mixed emotions about the fact that the time it is not on all the time. One could say that the time should be displayed as a default feature, but by the same token the band looks more elegant without the time showing…It looks like a sleek bracelet and the time is the first thing to display when you press the button to activate the different sections on the InBody Band, so no biggie.
The InBody Band has a rechargeable battery that can be charged through a standard USB charger and the charge lasts for about 4-5 days depending on how much you use the functions on your band and recharges pretty quick (I would say about an hour).
Water resistant but not water proof, so do you do not want to get your band underwater…I have forgot to take mine off before showering a couple of times, and luckily the USB port was closed, so there was no damage to my band, but it is definitely not recommended to take showers with your unit.
One thing you want to keep in mind, is that the band registers movement as steps and this is where it gets tricky…I noticed that when I first got up, my band was showing I have taken so many steps and the reason why is because I move a lot while sleeping ( I am breast feeding, so I wake up several times during the night). So you might want to check your band in the mornings, just so you know that you will get a more accurate result at the end of the day.
The InBody Band can be updated through the app, so if for example there has been a time change or you are traveling to a different time zone, your band will get the right time the next time you sync the unit to your phone.
The app
The InBody Band app is easy to read and it gives you a report broken down in categories so you can quickly asses your progress. The Inbody Band also gives you a sleep report!
The InBody Band has a retail price of $179.99
