It’s fair to say that even if you keep your celebrations to a minimum, the festive period can be a whirlwind. Even those who don’t celebrate can get lost in all the good cheer and the time off work, which opens space for celebrating, partying, or just seeing family members again.

If you’ve invited people over for the festive period 2024, and are just now realizing how chaotic it all was, it’s not uncommon to feel a little out of sorts. How do you regain that equilibrium? First, recycling that mound of wrapping paper could be a good start. But that doesn’t always mean the wider structural considerations of your household, some of you may have noticed when so many people were present and using those facilities, have been attended to.

In this post, we hope to offer a few maintenance tips to try (at your own pace), to help restore some order after the tornado of good fun you’ve just been through. Then your only task is recovering from the new year!

Calibrate & Restore Your HVAC System

Your heating system probably worked overtime during the holidays, especially with extra bodies warming up the house one minute and doors opening and closing the next. If you book a quick maintenance check for your entire HVAC system to ensure everything’s running smoothly, you can greet the rest of the winter in peace. The technician can clean out any dust that’s built up, check the filters, and make sure your system isn’t working harder than it needs to. This helps you avoid any surprise breakdowns when you still need reliable heating, and especially when the heavy ice and snow arrive.

Refit Your Driveway After Damage

Holiday traffic can be rough on your driveway, especially if Uncle Bob brought his massive truck to your small suburban household. All those extra cars parked up, possibly in frozen conditions, might have caused small cracks or dips you hadn’t noticed before. Taking care of these minor issues now prevents them from becoming bigger problems when spring rains arrive, as they always do. A driveway specialist or maintenance outfit can easily fill any small cracks, level out disturbed gravel, and check that your drainage still works properly. Or, you can do this yourself if you know how. If you spot any serious damage, getting a professional opinion now is worthwhile, though.

Have Your Windows Cleaned

Windows collect all sorts of grime and condensation during winter festivities, often resulting from everything you do and more, such as fingerprints to cooking steam to decoration residue. We’d politely suggest that professional window cleaning makes a bigger difference than you might expect, especially to start off a new year. That’s because clean windows let in more natural light, which helps fight off any tiresome sense of drabness, and it’s a nice way to start early spring cleaning. Moreover, having someone check your windows now means spotting any issues with seals or frames before they turn into drafts or leaks. Your house will feel fresher, brighter, and more ready for the year ahead – and we can only hope the same for ourselves!
With this advice, we hope you can restore some peace to your household even after a whirlwind festive celebration.
