You will probably remember the review of the Tommee Tippee giveaway I had in celebration of the Breast Feeding month (August). It is a fact that breast feeding is the best option for both mom and baby and it is also a fact that due to different conditions and situations, breastfeeding is not always possible and sometimes like in my case, breast feeding is only possible for a certain amount of time (busy moms that work). For those occasions, Tommee Tippee has the Perfect Prep Machine.
What is it? How does it works? Well, it is actually very simple, this handy machine. What makes the Perfect Prep Machine stand out from the rest? Well for starters it is the first machine of its kind that I know of. Could there be others that do a similar job? I have no idea, but what I do know is that this machine filters the water to provide your little one with clean water on each feeding which at least in my case was a big deal whenever I was feeding my little bug.
In addition, this machine delivers an initial ‘hot shot’ of water to kill bacteria that may be present in formula…again a big concern of mine as babies are so delicate and I always wanted to make sure that anything that was for the bug was properly sterilized. I was a bit concerned that having the hot water in the bottle might have made the milk too hot…You do not want to feed the baby, with milk that is too hot, but to my surprise, the formula comes out at a perfect temperature.
The machine is very easy to use. You will have to run a cleaning cycle the first time you use it and before you place the filter in the unit. Once that step is done, using the Perfect Prep machine is very simple. All you need to do is fill the water reservoir, place the right size bottle on the tray ( the tray is easily removed to adjust it to the size of the bottle you are using).
You will find a black dial around the power button that will allow you to select the amount of fl. Oz in your bottle to use the dial, gently press down and move till you reach the correct size. Once your bottle is in place and the tank is filled, press the start /stop button. A red light will flash and hot water will be dispensed into the bottle.
There are two stages on the preparation. Once the light turns to solid red and you hear a double beep, take the bottle from the tray, add the correct amount of formula, screw the sterilized milk storage lid included with your unit and shake well until the powder is dissolved (There is a bottle included with your unit and that is the bottle I used to try the machine, you might need to look for different lids if you are using a different brand), but the lid does look like a standard size though.
Remove the lid and place the bottle back on the tray, then press the start/stop button. The red light will go off and a green light will flash.( just so you know, if the button is not pressed within two minutes of the hot water being dispensed, you will hear a long beep indicating that you should discard the feeding and repeat the process starting from step 1.
Once the remaining water is dispensed, your bottle is ready…While I did not have any issues with the water temperature when I used the machine, I would highly recommend you test the temperature of the milk before feeding your baby.
