While kids are getting phones at a young age these days, many parents, including me, do not get warm fuzzy feelings when it comes to giving a smartphone to a young child. But what can you do when your kids are playing around the neighborhood, and you need them back for lunch?
Well, there are actually a few things you can do. You could go on a bike ride and find them, take a walk around the neighborhood, get in your car and drive around, or be that smart parent who has it all figured out and get your kids a set of walkie-talkies, such as the Motorola T100 Neon Blue Alkaline Two-Way Radios.
The Beauty of Two-Way Radios
A two-way radio offers you a quick way to communicate back and forth with your kids and keep tabs on them without using a phone.
The T100 Neon Blue Alkaline Two-Way Radios are very user-friendly, so your kids (and you) can enjoy hassle-free communication. The range is about sixteen miles, which should be enough to cover your neighborhood, and they are pretty resistant—no cracked screens here!
The T100 Neon Blue Alkaline Two-Way Radios from Motorola are user-friendly walkie-talkies with a battery life of about eighteen hours and twenty-two channels for communication. The belt clip makes them easy to bring along and to attach to a bike.
Not a Toy
These radios are certainly not a toy but an effective way to communicate with a family member different scenarios. They are certainly a great thing to have when you are at a park or on a hike.
What Is a Two-Way Radio?
A two-way radio is a radio that can not only receive but also transmit a signal. These radios are designed for bidirectional person-to-person voice communication with other users with similar radios using the same radio frequency (aka, channel).
There are different types of two-way radios: mobile, stationary base, and the portable configuration handheld devices that allow you to use them as you walk—hence their nickname, walkie-talkie.
Why Are They a Good Idea?
It’s all a matter of personal needs and what makes you comfortable. While I don’t consider myself a helicopter parent, I do need to know where my kids are and how to get to them if they need me, and two-way radios are an uncomplicated way to do just that.
A Lot of Fun
Walkie-talkies have always been a lot of fun for kids of different ages, and they make a nice addition to many different games. They are certainly a lot more basic than a smartphone, but they’re a nice way to communicate with the person holding the unit without a huge price tag and worrying about the kids breaking their unit.

I didn’t have walkie talkies as a kid. But my son does! He loves hiding out with his friends and using them to communicate. I think they are great to have for emergencies as well. I really like the Talkabout T200 Series for when we go camping and hiking.
As a child, I never had one. Always seen others using them to play around the yard and it always looked like fun. However, I guess back then I wasn’t much of an outdoors fan. Now, I’m always outdoors and this would probably be so much fun and great use while keeping an eye on things, where I can’t be.
I’d like to try the T605 Rechargeable Two-Way Radios (Dual Pack with Accessories)! My friend who lived down the street from us and I each had one and that’s how we would communicate! We also spent a lot of time outdoors using our walkie talkies!
I also like their Talkabout T600 H2O series. It is waterproof and floats if dropped in the water. That would be great for boaters or campers. I’m impressed with their radios. They’d be great to have in emergencies.
I’d like to have the Video Speaker Microphone. I never had walkie talkies as a kid. I would have love to though!

We never had walkie talkies as kids (or adults, either), though I always wanted a set. My brother and I would make believe we had them by talking into empty tin cans – in the same room, so we had no trouble hearing each other! I see another Motorola product that I really like. The Motorola LXN 500 LTE Ultra Portable Infrastructure. You can set up your own mini broadband anywear, and they say it works in just about any weather. Awesome!
I did have walkie talkies as a kid. I like the MOTOTRBO Professional Two-way Radios. They would come in handy when we put on outdoor events.
I would like a set of the Talkabout T800 Series radios for hiking and staying at the cabin. We don’t get a good cell signal and these would keep us in touch.

I would get the two way radios. I have used them before while out camping/hunting. I think they would be great now to use with my granddaughter during play time…like right now. She is in her sheet fort and would love to play with the radios.
