This is my third week since I got back on the Nutrisystem blogger program…Last week was a little hard for me because I had few different family activities including my 10th year wedding anniversary so I did end up eating out a couple of times. That made keeping on track a bit difficult. None the less, I did my best and went shopping with my list in hand and got my SmartCarbs which are a specific group of carbohydrates that are nutrient- rich and that measure low on the Glycemic Index. This means that these carbs are digested slowly so you feel fuller longer.
They also promote good health because they contain vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients.
My favorite SmartCarbs are bananas, beans, cantaloupe, cherries, clementines, grapes, grapefruit, guava, kiwi, mango, pineapple, plantains, potatoes, prunes, raspberries, strawberries, watermelon and yuca… As you can see there is plenty to choose from.
PowerFuels are high quality proteins that contain essential amino acids and healthy fats from nuts. It takes longer for your body to digest these foods which helps you stay satisfied. They are also a great source of protein to help boost your body.
My favorite PowerFuels? Almonds, cashews, low sodium cheese, clams, crab, eggs, fish, low fat ham, hazelnuts, lobster, macadamia nuts, oysters, peanut butter, pecans, salmon, scallops, string cheese, tuna, non-fat yogurt and the Nutrisystem shakes.
I can eat as much non-starchy vegetables as I want and since I love vegies, I make sure I keep my favorites at home all the time! My personal favorites? Broccoli, cauliflower, beets, asparagus, bean sprouts, carrots, green beans, lettuce, mixed greens, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes and zucchini!
There are also some extras that you can add to spice up your meal without adding many calories to your diet….Free Foods are condiments, beverages and spices that have less than 10 calories per serving.
Nutrisystem takes care of your three meals, but the SmartCarbs and PowerFuels help me to go through my day without getting too hungry or dragging. The key is to know the right amount of these extras that I can have, so I made a little list of my favorites and how much of each I can have. So now when I get hungry, I know at a glance what to eat!
