We received the Motorola Talkabout T480 in exchange for our honest and unbiased opinion.
September is the National Preparedness Month (NPM) and during this month people are called to be prepared as much as possible for any weather related emergency that might happen during this season… Here in Florida, hurricane season is when most people try to plan ahead for an emergency, but the reality is that we should all have an emergency plan at all times, especially if there are small children in the house.
While (NPM) helps as a prompt to take action to prepare, now and throughout the year, for any types of emergencies that could affect us anywhere we live (I am very aware that this includes a lot more than just the hurricanes), so we need to be prepared where we live, work, and also where we visit.
Make sure you have everything you might need during an emergency
Having a water supply, food and certain medications is vital during an emergency, but communication is also very important and will allow you to stay connected with your loved ones, the community, and news.
Information is crucial during an emergency which is the reason why having a Motorola Talkabout T480 FRS/GMRS is just a good idea.
Motorola Talkabout T480 FRS/GMRS
These compact, easy to set up two way radios are a great tool during an emergency, as they feature a built-in FM radio, which allows you to switch back and forth between talky and radio easily and allows you to listen to your favorite music or news as you would with a normal FM radio.
Easy to set up
The Motorola Talkabout T480 is easy to set up. The first thing you need to do after getting the unit out of the box is fully charge the walkies…You will find a back panel with a screw… Smart enough, Motorola made this panel so that it can be unscrewed with a coin which is great if you do not have a screw driver handy at some point.
The unit comes with a wall/desk stand that is easy to use and allows you to keep the charger cable tidily put away. The smart design stand bottom opens so you can roll up the rest of the cable preventing any tangles and messes. ( Be aware that the unit does not come with screws to attach the stand to the wall, but they are very standard and easy to find).
Two ways to power
The Motorola Talkabout T480 comes with a NiMH rechargeable batteries for up to 10 hours. Or ( and I love this), you can use 3 AA batteries for up to 26 hours of use….I think this is just great as if for whatever reason, you lose power or do not have access to a power outlet, you can still be connected and in the loop of what is going on around you with the radio and the walky. There are actually three ways to charge the NiMH rechargeable batteries that are included with your unit, you can connect it to your vehicle adaptor, your computer ( you will need a micro-USB cable for that), or plug the micro-USB cable into an outlet.
built-in LED flashlight
To make life even easier for the users, Motorola has included a built-in LED flashlight that is a life saver during a power outage or when you are outdoors.
I love the versatility of the Motorola Talkabout T480 and keep in mind that there are many other scenarios in which you can use a radio like this, but I just think this is something to be included on your top of your emergency plan.
More features to love
The unit also features low battery alert, and scanning feature to see which channels are presently in use. The Quiet Talk (QT) feature guarantees uninterrupted communication with other Motorola radios with the same feature…You can also communicate with other FRS/GMRS radios no matter what the brand being used as long as you are on the same channel and privacy code.
The range of the radio will vary with the terrain….going from 35 miles on a valley to mountain, to 1 mile in a neighborhood, so a test run to find out the range of the unit in your specific terrain or environment is always a good idea.
The Motorola Talkabout T480 has a MSRP: $69.99 per radio.

I have family & friends who work as emergency responders, so I think the LEX L10 Mission Critical Handheld is pretty nice. (It is sort of a smartphone type device used by officers in the field.) They would love that. As for myself, living in an area where we worry about tornadoes, these 2-way radios would be great when the power goes out & things get scary! We try to keep water & foods you can eat if the power is out for several days, but there’s not much you can do when power & phone lines are down, so being able to communicate would be great.
This is awesome. I would love to win this. It would be so much fun!

I also like their Talkabout MS355R. I like that they are waterproof and great for outdoors. I also like that the range is up to 35 miles. A good Christmas idea for my hubby. I probably don’t do as much as I should to be prepared for emergencies. I can say though, I’ve canned so many quarts of tomatoes this year, that I’m pretty much set for any zombie apocalypse. 🙂
The CLP series two way radios would be great for some of my co-workers.
(sorry, hit the button before I was finished typing!) We need more security in our building with the large client base we have, and this radio would have been great for me to use when I was alone in a room with a client that was not co-operative last week…

I would love to try the CLS SERIES ot T480 two-way radios. As a rugby referee, I am the only official on a pitch with 30 players. I rely on my touch judges to help me make the right call. Since rugby referees average over 8km a game, the device also needs to be lightweight and durable. The same device would be excellent as a part of an emergency response team because I would frequently needs to communicate with other personnel not within talking distance, especially in chaotic, noisy environments.
This set would be so helpful to us. From emergency power outages and contacting each other from the lake tot he cabin. We could use it for traffic control and such at work too. Thanks.
I also like their Talkabout T600 H2O. The waterproof design is awesome. My one daughter lives in FL and we are planning on moving there next Spring. When I hear about the current weather forecasts for Hurricane Matthew, I can’t help but think that waterproof is the way to go. When the weather is going to be bad, we make sure we have all our devices charged – including back-up chargers. We also make sure there is plenty of water and food that doesn’t require heating.
I like the TALKABOUT® MH230TPR. It has everything to keep the whole family in touch during an emergency.
Either of the Video Speaker Microphones would be my choice. Someone in the city of Chicago could use this. It could be for the oppressed or against those whose manliness is connected to weaponry.

It looks like Motorola has a variety of really cool and innovative products. I would like to have one of the Si Series video camera/microphones. It looks state-of-the-art. Owning a Talkabout T605 H20 would be a form for communication that would help. I have save Heirloom seeds for planting and also have those safe straws that filter contaminated water. So in case of a blackout where we had no electric I would have a few items to make life a little easier.

I have a supply of food and water as well as an alternate heat source. I keep a supply of batteries and plenty of flashlights as well as candles and matches. I also have tried to think ahead to what I might need – such as a hand can opener, a deck of cards and other things.

Lot’s os excellent products, love them all…..OtterBox Cases is also very nice, The Best Smart Phone Protection- always safe!
The 1693 two-way radio wireless bluetooth ptt pod is very interesting. It expands your emergency communication possibilities. Now you can talk to bluetooth-enabled receivers, as well as companion Motorola 2-way units. Many of those are battery- powered, portable units that would still be operating. Not clear if it lets you receive bluetooth, too.
This would really help put my mind at ease. Now that my daughter is fourteen and becoming more active at school and with her friends, I do worry about her safety quite often.
The Talkabout T605 H20 would help on family trips!!!
The DELTA Multi-Setting H2Okinetic In2ition Showerhead looks soothing. As for preparedness, it is always important to first have a plan for your emergency (How to protect yourself in disaster, exit plan, meet up place, calling contact person…) You should have sustaining supplies (Food, water, batteries, toiletries, blankets, etc.) and independent working equipment (Flashlight, cell phone, radio, camp stove, etc.). If you need to abandon your home, you should have suitcases/duffle bag with on-the-go supplies.
I have always been worried ,How will we stay in touch in case of an emergency?I have tried to prepare my family with backpacks filled with supplies but I cannot afford them. I hope I win these you just cant lose with Motorola. Thanks for the chance.
I also like the Talkabout® MG160A it looks like a great product. To be honest I am not properly prepared for emergencies. I need to do a better job at making sure we have the proper supplies if and emergency did arise.
I like the Talkabout T400. It would be nice to have for camping trips. We don’t have too many disasters where I live. Sometimes we get the occasional storm with flooding. I stay prepared by staying indoors and not driving in the flood waters.
I would love to try the TALKABOUT MU350R
