It’s exciting to decide that you want to move, identify a new rental opportunity, and then go through the process of making it yours. Still, while there are plenty of fun and exciting aspects, it’s also true that moving from one place to another can also be pretty stressful and headache-inducing if it’s not managed correctly.

Happily, the majority of factors that can cause stress levels to rise can be mitigated/eliminated with a little bit of careful planning. In this post, we’ll run through some tried and tested strategies for ensuring that your move is as smooth as can be from beginning to end.

Start Early

Many people underestimate how much time moving will take them, especially if they’re just moving from one apartment to another. In that scenario, an eyeball assessment will likely have you believing that you can box up all of your belongings and be ready for the move within a couple of days.

That might be the case, but it’s generally best not to wait around to find out. Starting the process early — such as by decluttering, boxing up your items, and so forth — will give you some breathing room in case the process takes you longer than you expect (which it likely will!). Ultimately, everything’s less stressful when you have plenty of time to play with.

Hire a Cleaning Team

Most people know that they’ll need to clear out all of their items when they leave a property. Not everyone is aware that, in the case of rented apartments/homes, they’ll also need to leave the space as clean and tidy as they found it when they first arrived. Failure to do so can result in a portion — a considerable portion, no less — of your deposit being withheld before it’s returned to you. And that can be pretty stressful, since everyone assumes that they’ll get their full deposit back! And it’s also pretty stressful to try to get a property spotlessly clean when you’re dealing with all the other components of moving home. If you don’t have time, then look at working with a company like Sparkly Maid, which offers a move-out cleaning service. That’ll give you peace of mind that the landlord/rental company will have no grounds to keep part of your deposit.

Hire Movers

As with most things relating to moving, many people underestimate how difficult it is to move all of their belongings to their new property. It’s not only that your items will be heavy, but that getting them through doorways — especially big items like sofas and beds — can be extremely difficult for people without the necessary experience. As such, it’s best to simply hire movers for the job. They’ll do the work much faster and more efficiently than you could, for a cost that’s pretty manageable.

Take Time Off Work

Finally, consider booking a few days off work around the time you’re moving. It’s hard to move at the best of times, but it’s all the more difficult when you’re trying to fit the move around your work!
