I don’t know about your brood, but mine certainly don’t like boring vacations. In fact, I think they would rather stay home where they could at least be entertained, rather than visit places where there is little to do but sunbath and nap. Luckily, there are plenty of exciting vacation options out there available for them and for your family too. Just read on to find out what they are.
Orlando Parks
One place that you can pretty much guarantee that the kids aren’t going to get bored and cranky is if you visit the beautiful region of Orlando. This is because it is home to the Disney and Universal theme parks which give you and the kids a chance to be immersed in another world. A world where you can drink butterbeer and play Quidditch with Harry Potter, and even meet Minnie, Mickey and their friends if you choose.
Universal Adventure Island Tour
In fact, while both parks have central sites, they also have attractions in other locations as well such as Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Universal Adventure Island. Something that means even if you visit for weeks at a time either will always be something new for the little ones to do and enjoy.
Sailing
Another option for a family vacation that steers clear of being boring is eschewing the usual camping or holiday stay and going for something radically different like a sailing break.
Sailing holidays are in fact, widely available in many locations around the globe, and generally, you can hire a yacht largest enough for the whole family and use that as both your means of transport and your accommodation for the break.
It is something of a wild adventure for the kids, especially if they have never sailed before and you can even get a captained boat if you don’t feel confident enough to manage things on your own.
The real advantage of taking a sailing vacation as opposed to a static one is that you get to see so many beautiful sites that continuously change, meaning if you are not so keen on one particle by then you can easily move onto the next and make the most of your time there instead.
Of course, there is the bonus that the kids get to learn about sailing too, and may well end the vacation with a new skill, something that can give them a passion for sailing later on in life, as well as some amazing memories to treasure forever.
Trekking
Trekking and hiking are both popular options for day trips, but have you ever considered them for more extended vacations too? Depending on the route that you pick and the physical difficulty level they can be an excellent choice to keep even the most energetic child engaged and having a good time.
Of course, there is also all that amazing wildlife, stunning scenery, and exotic wildlife point to appreciate as well. All this in addition to getting some refreshing and mind clearing time outdoors.
If all that wasn’t enough, you could make the trip more interesting and exciting for kids by teaching them survival skills such as food foraging, camp building, and water finding as suggested in the video below.
Alternatively, setting the kids goals to complete and record each day can also help provide them with an added challenge and focus. Something that will ensure they can never say they are bored with this sort of vacation!
Las Vegas Hotels
Even those with the shortest of attention spans cannot get bored in Las Vegas! In fact, every time you turn around there is something new and slightly bonkers, but usually in a good way, going on.
Of course, Vegas may not it’s the first place you would think of to take the kids, and I’m not saying you should head down there in spring break or even in the summer. However, in offseason, Vegas is a lot more family-friendly and can make a great place to treat family members for all ages.
In particular, there is the zoo and aquarium at Mandalay Bay to visit, as well as the theme park and the old-timey fairground stalls in Circus Circus.
If the kids are enamored with medieval English history then taking them to see the sword and jousting tournament at the Excalibur is a great idea.
Then there’s the free Fall of Atlantis show in Caesar’s palace that is made up of exclusive animatronic robots. This show is so worth seeing, especially if the kids aren’t expecting what looks like a static fountain to come to life. You can even grab a seat outside the Cheesecake Factory and watch it from there if you like a sweet treat and a cup of coffee in front of you.
Road trips
However, you may have your own idea of where you would all like to visit on your next vacation, and that is why a road trip and be a fabulous choice.
In fact, if you have older kids in particular, this can work well. After all, they can help out with some of the driving, and you can visit some of the crazy, kooky places that are the roadside attractions of the USA.
Such masterpieces include the Salvation Mountain in California, the Spam Museum in Minnesota, and Cano’s Castle in Colorado. A structure completely made from that well-known building material, beer cans.
Intersperse such trip with visits to greasy spoon diners, where you can get old school delicacies. These may include things like Southern fried steak, meatloaf, and the USA’s best burger (no matter what diner you currently are visiting), as well as some more customized homemade specialties to try out along your route.
Just be sure to pack mobile chargers for the kid’s phone, so they can access their music, audios book, and e-reading apps while they are not at the wheel. Then you can guarantee that they won’t be bored on the driving legs of the trip as well as when you stop to take in some of the ironically hip sites on your American road trip.
