As much as I hate to admit it, we should always be prepared for worst-case scenarios, and down here in Florida, we had a big scare last hurricane season (keeping the fingers crossed for this to be a quiet one). Then I think about the wildfires up in California … Yes, we all need to be prepared.
Preparedness Is Best
We often hear about being prepared for emergencies, but the reality is that we quite often don’t have any emergency plans or take the measures needed to keep our families and us safe during an emergency.
Have a plan in place in case of an emergency and tell all your family members what to do. Keep supplies like water, nonperishable food, medications, and items that can be placed in a bag and easily grabbed on your way out. Keep your bag in an accessible spot and make sure all your family members know where the bag is and what needs to be inside it.
Stay connected. Two-way radios are a great way to stay connected and informed during an emergency, but make sure they are charged ahead of time.
Have important documents at hand. Keep your most important documents in a bag that can be easily grabbed on the way out. You will want a specially designed bag for this. I keep our passports, births certificates, and some cash in a Boulong fireproof document bag.
Boulong fireproof document bag
The Boulong Fireproof Document Bag measures 15” x 12”. It’s made of non-itchy double silicone–coated fabric that, according to the brand, is fire, water, and explosion resistant and can withstand up to 2,300℉.
The bag is big enough to hold all my important documents without being bulky. It’s also lightweight and has handles for easy grabbing and carrying. It’s made from high-quality, eco-friendly, and non-itchy silicone-coated fiberglass material and displays great craftsmanship.
This bag is something I recently added to my emergency preparedness plan, and I love the idea of having my important documents safely stored and ready to go at any time if I need to leave the house in a hurry.
I am really pleased with the design: just one large front zippered compartment, and the main compartment that is really roomy.
I hope I never need this bag, but I feel better knowing that if I do need it, it’s ready to go, and I can count on having all my important documents at hand.
