I did not reviewed this car seat and was not financially compensated for this post.
According to AAA 98.6 million people were on the roads, train tracks or in the skies during last year’s holiday season. With all of those people, it’s important that parents take the time to brush up on car seat safety, and make sure children are properly secured before hitting the road. We also understand traveling with kids is not easy. Here are some of Safety 1st’s tips for successful holiday travel on and off the road:
Off we go!
- Before you hit the road, check in with a local Child Passenger Safety Technician to ensure your child’s seat is installed correctly. You can visit a local police station, fire station, AAA office or Safe Kids Chapter for guidance.
- The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises children remain rear facing until the age of two. According to a study in the Journal of Injury Prevention children under the age of two are 75 percent less likely to die or be severely injured in the event of a car crash if they are rear facing.
- For older children the AAP recommends children ride in boosters until the age of 12 or 57 inches. However, 72% of children are in seat belts but should still be in a belt positing booster. Booster seats reduce injury risk by 59% compared to seat belts alone.
- If you are flying, check to make sure your car seat is FAA certified. If it’s not clearly labeled contact the manufacturer.
- Once you all set to go you’ll need a travel survival kit. Pack books, toys, diapers, a change of clothes and snacks to avoid this dreaded phrase, ”Are we there yet?”. Pre-load a tablet or smartphone with kid friendly apps or games. If you are driving, keep all necessary items such as wipes, hand sanitizer or tissues in an easy to reach location – you don’t want to get distracted while digging at the bottom of a bag.
Prepare beyond packing the suitcase:
- Avoid peak travel days –Try not to fly or drive the days immediately before and after the actual holiday. These are the busiest travel days. However, if you fly or take a train you might save money by traveling on the actual holiday; the roads are typically less congested as well.
- Prepare your child – Holiday parties can cause sensory overload. Especially for young children, it’s good to talk about the upcoming trip days, even weeks, in advance. Show photos of family members or friends your child has not met yet. This way, the new face may not seem so unfamiliar.
- Prepare the guest room – If your child will be sleeping in a Play Yard during the trip, use it for bed or nap time the entire week before. This will help him or her get used to a new sleep environment. Also, if your infant or child sleeps better in a dark room or tends to wake up early with the morning light, bring garbage bags or dark fabric to tape over windows.

SUMMIT 65 BOOSTER CAR SEAT looks really nice. I like how versatile the seat is and that we can use it for longer than a regular seat. Having a good seat is a must for traveling with kiddos. We also take plenty of snacks and fun activities
I think the Summit 65 Booster Seat would be perfect for our little one. We are almost ready to switch from our Safety 1st 3-in-1 Convertible. I also really like the Top of Mattress Bed Rail. Our must need travel item is a portable kids fan that attaches to the seat and has soft foam blades. It’s super hot where we live and our car’s a/c is not always reliable so it’s great for keeping our little one cool.
The STORE ‘N GO BELT-POSITIONING BOOSTER CAR SEAT is one nice looking car seat. Aside from the colors, I love that it has additional storage. I also like the Nature Next™ Bamboo Security Gate. One of our must have travel items is a bucket- my daughter gets carsick & to go anywhere we have to travel twisty mountain roads.
The Summit® 65 Booster Car Seat would be a great car seat for my grandson! I love that my grandson could ride in it with a harness up until 65 pounds and then transition to the belt-positioning booster mode when he’s ready. What a safe seat!
The Grow and Go in plumeria would be the perfect car seat for my sister who is due in March. this will be her fourth all under 6 so they all have car seats or booster seats. Makes me glad I only had 2.
I like the nod away bassinet. It is simple but stylish. I would definitely trust a safety 1st bed product than others
I used cabinet and door latches on my kitchen cupboards. I found these very helpful with twins to keep the hands out of drawers and cupboards where they didn’t belong, plus to save little fingers from being slammed. They weren’t hard to install, only needed a screwdriver. The latches are sturdy and held up through 5 kids.
I love the Amble Luxe Travel System With OnBoard™35. I absolutely have to have an extra change of clothes for the kids and lots of wipes!
I like the Nod-A-Way® Bassinet.Besides a car seat when traveling with kids i would say wipes and plenty of bottles are necessary to travel.
I love the Step & Go Travel System With OnBoard in Blue! I love that it has the step to open design as well as the infant car seat. I am expecting my first child in June but I think I will need wipes, food and drink, and plenty of things to entertain when travelling!
The Grow and Go car seat is my favorite item. I love how they grow with the child. A necessity for me is to have a drink. I love that the Grow and Go car seat has a cup holder- this is a must for me and my 1 year old!
My on the travel go favorite to have is the Simply Secure 23″ Doorway Gate. I love it because it is a pressure gate that can fit at doorways which is awesome to travel. It is great to have so if you are somewhere you need to keep a child out of, you can quickly post it and it does not tear up anyone’s walls.
I would love the CUSTOM CARE MODULAR BATHING SOLUTION (bath tub for babies). I’ve got a 2 month old grandson that is here at least 3 times a week and I’m always giving him a bath. My current baby bath tub isn’t the greatest so I would love to try that one for sure!
I love my Safety 1st Guide 65 Sport Convertible car seat. The incline is much farther than my infant seat and my son sleeps more peacefully in it. The main thing i need while traveling with him is toys! He gets very upset in the car but is easily distracted.
One of my favorite products is the AMBLE LUXE TRAVEL SYSTEM WITH ONBOARD™35. I could use this stroller whenever I go to the park with my daughter or go to the zoo. I am in need of a car seat so I would love this travel system! When I travel with my daughter, I must have a diaper bag and toys!
I like the Nod-A-Way Bassinet! I think it would be perfect for travel early on because it is small and can easily fit in the car. I also love that it has chimes, a nightlight and a vibrating feature to help baby fall asleep. And I love the see through mesh so we can make sure baby is ok!
Toys and snacks to keep them preoccupied!
you absolutely need a good car seat. the Grow and Go™ 3-in-1 Car Seat seems like a good selection. it’s always good to buy items that will last a while.
I love the ELITE EX 100 AIR+ 3-IN-1 CAR SEAT. I love that it is for babies 5 lbs up to 100 lbs. A car seat is the number one thing that a baby needs to stay safe in the car. I keep my grand daughter while my son and daughter in law work. If I need to take her somewhere in the car, I have to remember to get my daughter in law to leave me her car seat. It would be so nice to have one of my own.
I think their Nod-A-Way Bassinet is really nice! These days, it seems no one can leave the house without a bag load of items to occupy the kids, lol. Everything from baby toys for the little ones (and diapers, powders, lotions, bottles, blankets, etc.) to games or ipads or tablets for the slightly older ones. Hey, anything to keep them from fighting with each other in the car!
I love their NOD-A-WAY® BASSINET. They look like they are high quality made. This would come in realy handy for when the grandbaby is over.
The Stay Close Harness Pal is my favorite. Little ones can be very fast and when you’re traveling and trying to hold onto your purse, luggage, and the children it can be difficult. The harness would give me piece of mind that my child wouldn’t run off and get lost or dart out into traffic.
I love the Prelude™ Play Yard! It’s great that it’s portable..and it’s definitely a travel necessity when my cousin comes to visit with her little one! Since my own kids are much older now, it’s a great way to let the baby nap comfortably & safely at my house!
My favorite is the Crystal Clear Audio Baby Monitor. That would come in handy 🙂
My favorite is the Summit 65 Booster Car Seat. It would be great for my son when he transitions to a booster. I love that it is very safe and the colors are amazing. Thank you.
I also really like the Nod-A-Way® Bassinet. I think when traveling with kids its very important to have snacks and a change of clothes! And something fun to do in the car.
I like the nod away bassinet. It is simple but stylish. I would definitely trust a safety 1st bed product than others It seems very comfortable!
My favorite is the Step & Go Travel System With OnBoard. I would put this to good use! The colors are beautiful too. I would say that my must have when traveling with little ones are snacks, drinks, diapers and wipes.
